Both speaker sessions from yesterday’s Broadcast Sport Breakfast Club are now available to watch on-demand.

The second Broadcast Sport Virtual Breakfast Club took place yesterday (Wednesday 17 February) on event platform Hopin. The focus of the Breakfast Club was on sports on social media. Facebook’s Anna Chanduvi joined us for the first session to talk about how Facebook works with sports federations, clubs and athletes to maximise their reach and opportunities using the platform.

The second session was with the FA and its esports agency Digital Sports Management, to talk about the way they produced content for social platforms for the England eLions team qualifiers.

Panel 1: Sports on social: how Facebook supports sports publishers in 2021 and beyond

In this fireside chat, Broadcast Sport editor Jake Bickerton talks with Facebook’s Anna Chanduvi to understand how the social media giant is connecting teams to fans; how it is bringing in new types of content and sporting experiences, including virtual stadiums and virtual sporting events; and more broadly how the sports broadcasting industry is being seen as a prime opportunity for Facebook. The discussion also focuses on how Facebook aims to service the sports production and broadcasting community going forward.

Panel 2: How The FA is pioneering esports entertainment with its eLions initiative

The FA recently hosted two ambitious five-hour live streams on Twitch and Facebook (on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 February 2021) to create an event around the process of selecting the England eLions team. The live FIFA 21 esports tournament saw 16 players whittled down to the final four, who will now represent England for the coming year. The FA worked on the project with esports agency Digital Sports Management. Both join Broadcast Sport editor Jake Bickerton to talk about how they created a high-end show for the event, and how they utilised different social media channels to maximise the reach and audience engagement in the live streams.
