The successful applicant will produce and distribute 45 matches of the Rugby League World Cup 2021.
Following news of its broadcast partnership, Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) and International Rugby League (IRL) have released an Invitation To Tender for its Host Broadcast Services for next year’s tournament.
The successful organisation will be responsible for the production and distribution of broadcast coverage for 45 matches at the tournament, for both RLWC2021 and the rights holding broadcasters.
The tender also includes being responsible for the provision and operation of facilities and services as required by the rights holding broadcasters.
UK rights holder the BBC will show all 61 matches across the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments live, and will produce the remaining 16 matches not produced by the host broadcaster.
The tender is seeking a production outfit that will be “bold and brave, inclusive and aiming to deliver the biggest and best Rugby League World Cup ever.”
It will aim to engage a new audience and grow the appeal of Rugby League, especially through innovation in the digital space.
Jonathan Neill, commercial director at RLWC2021, said: “Our broadcast production strategy is critical in our vision to deliver the best and most engaging Rugby League World Cup. To do this we need to become storytellers, embrace technology and engage new audiences. We’re excited to hear from the market and select a world class partner that will work with us over the next 18 months.”
