Match was the second most-watched non-news offering of the day.

The first ever Premier League match to play live on BBC1  peaked at 4.1m (26.1%) around the 30-minute mark on Saturday night.

Across its 150-minute run it averaged 3.3m (20.4%) – behind the 4m (23.3%) slot average but the second most-watched non-news offering of the day.

The match, which ended 2-0 to Palace, skewed towards men, as male profile hit 64.9% (2.1m) versus a 40% benchmark profile. Male share rose by 6pp from benchmark, while it halved for women to 14.3% (1.2m).

Meanwhile, 16-34 share was up from 20.2% (390,000) to 27.8% (530,000).

The last live football match on BBC1 – the FA Cup tie between Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City – was slightly behind with 3.1m (17.5%) in the same slot on a Wednesday night in early March.

The game was also ahead of Sky Sports’ big football return from the previous Wednesday, when 2.6m (14.3%) tuned in for Manchester City vs Arsenal across Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

Match of the Day also returned for BBC1 from 10.45pm-11.45pm with 2.1m (18.7%), slightly behind the 2.4m (23%) average for the previous highlights shows this year, according to Barb data from overnights.tv
