Darts, pool, and snooker will be available on the service

Matchroom Sport is to launch an OTT platform, Matchroom Live, to provide both live and on-demand content.

The service will be built and powered by StreamAMG, and will have access to a range of sports from Matchroom’s portfolio.

Its offering will include live broadcasts of events in countries where there is no broadcast partner. These include the World Snooker Championship and Masters, World Darts Championship and Premier League, World Pool Championship and Mosconi Cup, and others.

In addition, there will be a worldwide offering of highlights, replays, and on-demand content – for free.

StreamAMG has worked with Matchroom Sport before, having operated PDC.tv since 2016, and also streaming Anthony Joshua’s v Andy Ruiz II for the Indian subcontinent.

It will be providing a video-first platform that functions through iOS and Android apps that can cast to consoles, smart TVs, or other connected devices. There will also be a ‘quad-play’ option to split the screen into four parts to watch separate live events at the same time.

To access live content, Matchroom Live will generally offer subscription packages and pay-per-view options. However, it also has the freedom to switch to subscription-funded, sponsorship-funded, ad-funded, or hybrid commercial models depending on the sport or territory.

Chairman of Matchroom Sport, Barry Hearn, said of the announcement: “Matchroom Live will allow us to reach new audiences, grow our international presence and offer world-class entertainment for fans across the globe.”

Hugo Sharman, chief executive officer of StreamAMG, added: “Matchroom Sport have always been quick to adopt new technology and new business models, and we’re delighted to support their ambition.”
