Jump Design has created an inspiring on-screen design package for the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and Eurovision Sport.

Jump Design is behind a new opening and closing sequence, stings and wipe for the 2019/20 Biathlon season.

The company were inspired by the cinematic title music, producing a visual style based on 3D models rendered with flat shading.

Jump’s animator Mark Fairless said: “The film was primarily made in Cinema 4D with a variety of techniques to give it a flat 3D look. Multiple lighting setups were used while rendering scenes and to isolate specific elements. This is evident with the trees in the opening scene, which combine long shadows with snowy detail in the branches.”

The shots of the skiers were completed with the help of character animation specialist Nick Savy, who hand animated movement to ensure it was in keeping with the particular style of biathlon skiing.

Joris Wauman, TV delegate at the IBU and Eurovision Sport, said: “After having delivered an iconic opening sequence for the inaugural event of the European Championships, Jump came up with a very strong pitch. The concept for the new opening sequence for the International Biathlon Union stood out for its freshness and cinematic appeal in combination with the existing music. The initial feedback from the stakeholders in the world of biathlon has been very positive.”

The Biathlon World Cup is running now until 22 March 2020, in Oslo, Norway.
