Immersive audio streams of Premier League matches via the BT Sport app begin on Saturday and will continue for all BT Sport’s midday Saturday kick offs.
The BT Sport app will begin streaming weekly Premier League matches in Dolby Atmos, starting with the 12:30pm Brighton v Liverpool match on Saturday (28 November).
Dolby Atmos immersive audio will be part of the broadcaster’s Saturday midday games (as well as other selected events) for BT Sport Ultimate customers watching via the small and large screen BT Sport app.
Existing BT Sport customers can add BT Sport Ultimate for an extra £5 per month, while new customers who subscribe through the BT Sport Monthly Pass, for £25 a month, can also access the Dolby Atmos enabled streams for no extra cost.
It will also be part of the BT Sport Match Day Experience for EE customers with the 5G Full Works Plan for iPhone.
The BT Sport app can be accessed via iOS, Apple TV, Android, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Samsung Smart TV. Chromecast, Now TV and Roku will also launch in the coming weeks.
A Dolby Atmos-enabled sound bar or sound system is recommended to fully experience the immersive audio when watching the matches on the large screen app.
The immersive audio on the small screen app will work via any standard headphones and also through the phone speakers, according to BT Sport’s press release.
Jamie Hindhaugh, chief operating officer BT Sport, said: “The addition of Dolby Atmos audio to our 4K UHD and HDR visuals on the app provides fans with the best possible audio-visual experience of live sport when they can’t be at the game in person. The richer audio quality will add a whole new dimension to the way fans experience sport, at home or on the move, and ensure they won’t miss a moment of the action.”
Javier Foncillas, vice president, commercial partnerships Dolby Europe, added: “Dolby has worked with BT for a number of years and they have been an innovative partner ensuring they offer sports fans the very best experience. They were the very first to offer Dolby Atmos in their live sports broadcasting globally and now they are the first to ensure that fans are able to have a truly immersive viewing experience on whichever device they are watching.”
