The rest of the F1 season will feature chequered flags emblazoned with the names of fans, to raise money for the #WeRaceAsOne campaign.
A charity initiative by the F1, fulfilled by memorabilia platform F1Authentics, provided F1 fans the chance to buy and have their names on the squares on the race-ending chequered flag for this weekend’s Formula 1 Rolex Grosser Preis von Osterreich (The Red Bull Ring, Austria 3-5 July).
The squares sold out speedily and, as a result, the idea has been extended to the remainder of the F1 season.
For each race, 56 flag squares are offered to fans at a cost of £199.99 each. Money raised from this supports the #WeRaceAsOne campaign which aims to tackle the fight against Covid-19, as well as racism and inequality.
After the race, fans receive their square mounted and framed, along with an image of the flag in action.
Barry Gough, CEO of The Memento Group, owners of F1Authentics.com, said: “Waving the chequered flag to signal the end of a race has been a tradition that has lasted the entirety of F1’s incredible 70 year history. To now be a part of that moment is something we know that F1 fans, the world over, will cherish.”
