In addition, ITV 4 will be showing all the England matches on their run to the semi-finals
ITV Hub is going to show the entire 31 matches of Euro 96 after the 2020 edition was postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.
In addition, ITV 4 will show England’s five-game run to the semi-finals, which ended in penalty heartbreak against Germany when current Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate missed the key spot kick. It will also air the final between Germany and the Czech Republic.
As well as England’s run to the semi-finals, the tournament is well-remembered as the origin of David Baddiel, Frank Skinner, and the Lightning Seeds’ Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home) song. It became hugely popular once again when England made it to the same stage of the 2018 World Cup more recently.
Head of digital channels and acquisitions at ITV, Paul Mortimer, said: “Nothing brings the country together like Euro fever, and with this year’s tournament postponed to 2021, we’re giving our audience a chance to relive one of the all-time great sporting events, Euro ’96.”
“There’ll be no shortage of vintage football classics for fans to indulge in over the next few months.”
ITV have made this move after the men’s European Championships was moved to 2021 in reaction to the covid-19 pandemic. This sees it clash with the women’s edition, the consequences of which are yet to be explained.
