It is utilising cloud video editing software Grabyo to create real-time social media highlights from live games.

Netball Australia is bolstering its digital presence ahead of a new media rights deal with pay-TV broadcaster Foxtel, in a move to raise the profile of elite netball across the country.

The national governing body for netball in Australia is to use cloud video platform Grabyo to clip, edit and deliver real-time highlights to social media, from over 70 netball matches in its 2021 calendar.

The highlights will appear on Netball Australia’s social media channels; the Netball Network; and Netball Live Official app.

The content will be used to promote its competitions and build awareness to win new fans. The move comes after a 2020 study by YouGov found that more than a third of Australian sports fans use social media to watch sports content.

As well as creating social media assets, Netball Australia’s team will use Grabyo Editor to deliver weekly round-up videos and recaps.

Netball Australia recently signed a five-year deal with Foxtel to host its Suncorp Super Netball series and Diamonds matches on Foxtel’s TV channels and its dedicated streaming service, Kayo Sports, from 2022.

Spencer Retallack, executive general manager, media at Netball Australia, said: “Building a lasting relationship with fans takes time and dedication. Digital consumption has increased dramatically over the past year and with this opportunity comes our ability to adopt new technologies and create more innovative content.”

Marcello Fabiano, head of Australia and New Zealand, Grabyo, added: “We are excited to be working with such a great team and across such a fast-growing sport. We have seen really strong engagement from netball fans across the Grabyo platform and look forward to ensuring Netball Australia connects with its domestic and global fan base more broadly than ever before.”
