The cloud platform was unveiled at the European Athletics Indoor Championships.

Mavis Broadcast has launched cloud-based live production and broadcast platform, Mavis Live, after using it to produce clips to enhance Eurovision Sport’s coverage of the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2021 in Torun (Poland).

During the four-day event, content created on Mavis Live enabled different broadcasters to create independent programming to complement the integrated feed. The Eurovision Sport team presented multiple feeds from the venue to a number of Mavis Live instances in the cloud, giving control to broadcasters to make their own tailored output.

Mavis Live enables remote virtualised live production, with functions including vision and audio mixing, instant replay and talkback.

Franck Choquard, head of content and platforms, Eurovision Sport, said: “Thanks to the great support of the Mavis team, we can begin to open up the potential of live cloud production for EBU Members and federations’ platforms.”

Patrick Holroyd, CEO of Mavis Broadcast, added: “The aim [of Mavis Live] is to put the OB truck in the cloud and provide a full broadcast feature-set including vision and audio mixing, instant replay and talkback. The platform is underpinned by a bespoke streaming protocol called Mavis Live Streaming Protocol (MLSP) that has been built from the ground up. The protocol is ultra-low-latency and can deliver video within 1 frame. A user can touch a screen or press a button, which sends a command to the cloud to say cut between two sources. The switch is made instantaneously and the result is sent back to the user to view.”
