The programme takes a look at the tragic life of footballing all-time great Diego Maradona

Discovery+ is exclusively streaming new documentary, ‘What Killed Maradona?’, an investigation in to the tragic life of Argentinian footballing legend Diego Maradona.

Maradona sadly passed away in 2020, at the age of just 60. ‘What Killed Maradona?’ takes a look at the great acheivements of his career, and also the lifestyle that eventually led to his untimely death.

The documentary is produced by ITN Productions, and features interviews with Maradona’s former agent, John Smith; his former trainer, Fernando Signorini; and former teammate and Napoli captain Giuseppe Bruscolotti.

‘What Killed Maradona?’ uses these interviews and more to chart Maradona’s life off an on the field. From the Buenos Aires shanty town where he started out, through the medical treatments he needed in his teenage years to make up for his poverty-stricken childhood, to his stellar career for club and country, and finally his descent into drug abuse and life after playing.

Well-known moments such as the ‘Hand of God’ against England at the 1986 World Cup, and his record-breaking transfer to Napoli wil be covered, and the story behind them analysed, to see what it was that caused Maradona’s fall from grace.
