Football club creates impressive multi-camera setup to enable fans to watch high quality coverage of matches.
Fan-owned football club Darlington FC has created its own live streaming service, Quaker TV, which will provide high quality multi-camera broadcasts of each of the club’s matches.
The club brought in CJP Broadcast to install a Streamstar X4 Live Production Studio and four-channel talkback, to enable the production of games and content for Quaker TV.
The Streamstar works with up to eight cameras, offering simultaneous recording and replay with slo-mo on each channel, multiscreen media viewing, a range of graphic effects and an internal character generator. It’s controlled via a touch screen user interface and also enables on-the-fly highlights creation, advert insertion, clip insertion and audio mixing. An external joystick can be used for pan/tilt/zoom camera control.
An h264 live stream is output from the Streamstar via a 10 megabits per second link or via 4G mobile. It can also be simulcast to multiple platforms and in-stadium screens.
Quaker TV will be run by Darlington FC volunteers.
One of these is Stuart Armstrong, who helped create the club’s TV service. He said: “Lots of clubs right up to Championship level are doing single-camera streaming but we wanted to create something that our fans could feel proud of. For each home game this season we will be providing a stream consisting of up to four match action cameras, integrated commentary, graphics, instant replays, and some additional buildup and post-game content.
“We engaged with CJP Broadcast who have been helpful with information and guidance throughout the planning stages. The Streamstar technology they have installed provides everything we need at this stage of our experience with live production.”
