The broadcaster is using the Switch’s fibre transport network to air live baseball, golf and wrestling to Japanese sports fans.

Japanese sports broadcaster J Sports is to air live telecasts of major US sports directly from American stadiums and arenas to viewers in Japan.

The move is being enabled through a partnership with live video delivery provider the Switch.

The Switch has installed a permanent transmit path from its New York Network Operations Centre to the J Sports’s Tokyo facility to feed Major League Baseball, PGA golf and WWE wrestling to Japanese fans.

The setup utilises the Switch’s fibre transport network for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity to arenas and stadiums and other leading international sports venues.

J Sports operates four dedicated sports channels and an on-demand service. It plans to broadcast two Major League Baseball games a day; multiple PGA tournaments; and weekly WWE Raw and SmackDown matches.

The setup and broadcast of every game is monitored 24/7 from The Switch in New York.

A J Sports spokesperson said: “We wanted a company that understands how the broadcast of sports from US stadiums, arenas and golf courses works and also has proven global reach – and The Switch gives us all of that. It offers not just the benefit of its knowledge, but state-of-the-art connectivity in every US professional sports venue and the infrastructure and technical support necessary to ensure seamless delivery.”
