The long-standing 3pm blackout is likely to be lifted while fans aren’t able to attend games.
Premier League clubs are reportedly on the verge of agreeing that all matches should be shown on TV until fans can return to stadiums.
This would be a continuation of the lifting of the long-standing 3pm blackout, which was first lifted to televise all games during the return of the Premier League 2019/20 season.
The 3pm blackout exists to eliminate the negative effect on the attendances of other football league games that are not being televised.
But, with fans not able to attend any games, there seems little point in maintaining the 3pm blackout, especially when the enforcement of it will mean fans won’t be able to watch many of their team’s games live at all.
As it currently stands, 17 of the opening 28 games will be shown on Sky Sports or BT Sport. 11 games will not be available to watch anywhere live in the UK.
Under proposals that are likely to be confirmed today, according to a report in The Sun, these 11 games are likely to be split between different broadcasters, including free-to-air on the BBC.
