The deal provides Yahoo Sports with a huge archive of football clips, and Dugout with a new revenue stream.

Verizon Media and Dugout have partnered up to provide Dugout’s 60,000+ archive football-related clips to an embedded player in Yahoo Sports. It also makes it possible for Verizon Media’s advertisers to reach Dugout’s audience of 60+ million football fans.

Dugout’s library of content spans more than 100 clubs, including Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, FC Bayern Munich, FC Internazionale Milano, AFC Ajax, FC Barcelona, Flamengo and Real Madrid CF. The company is co-owned by a collection of football clubs which use it to distribute current and archived ‘brand-safe’ video clips – player interviews, goals, goal celebrations, training footage, etc – direct to fans and to sports news publishers.

Iván Markman, chief business officer, Verizon Media, said: “This new partnership not only brings fantastic quality video content for Yahoo’s football fans globally, but also allows us to connect our advertising customers to millions more football fans around the world. It’s the world’s favourite sport and inspires huge loyalty and engagement on a daily basis, which hasn’t changed in recent times as people catch up on archive content and rewatch their favourite matches.”

Elliot Richardson, chairman, Dugout, added: “It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity for our stakeholders, supporting international and regional advertisers with highly engaged audiences, working together with our publishers who produce a wealth of premium content and our premium video from the world’s top clubs, and most importantly of course, for the fans – delivering the best experience for them globally.”
