Partnership to innovate with live data visualisation in esports completes its first project.

ESL has announced the first project to be completed from its partnership with Berlin-based Bayes Esports Solutions, which began in 2019.

The partnership aims to create new innovations in live data visualisations in esports, with the first project – CARP – enabling complete 2D visualisations (replays) to be created and displayed live, during a game.

CARP can show representations of player positions and the trajectories of objects, which was previously only possible to do after the game had finished and not in real-time.

ESL and Bayes says CARP can be put into operation immediately, and is necessary to create a more entertaining live experience and to enhance the viewer’s understanding of what’s happening in the game.

CARP extracts data for the games CS:GO and Dota 2 (pictured) in real-time with what ESL and Bayes say is “unprecedented quantity and quality of data points”. As well as using it for immersive real-time replays, the data will be made available to other interested parties on BEDEX, the esports data marketplace for in-game data, which was developed by Bayes.

Bernhard Mogk, SVP global business development at ESL, says: “Together with Bayes, we want to set uniform standards and drive the sport forward with data-driven developments. For an even stronger media presence of esports, media and other data consumers must receive all the information they need as quickly and reliably as possible.”
