The system has been undergoing testing by the wrestling governing  body for the last two years.

Amateur wrestling governing body United World Wrestling (UWW) has chosen Slomo.tv as its video referee for all its matches.

The company’s videoReferee-SR systems will be used at 20 competitions as well as the 2021 and 2024 Olympic Games.

UWW, which is based in Switzerland, represents 176 national federations and oversees wrestling at the Olympics and international competitions for various forms of wrestling, including Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling for men and women.

Multi-camera video referees are used for the UWW’s events in instances where it is difficult to make an objective decision. Like the VAR systems in football, the video referee system provides instant reviews of the incident from several angles, both with adjustable playback speed and frame-by-frame.

It has been working with slomo.tv for the last two years to implement video-refereeing at its international competitions. It has so far been used at 20+ world competitions. UWW tried out different video-refereeing systems from different manufacturers before opting for videoReferee-SR, which appealed due to its compact size and light weight, to ease transportation.

The video-refereeing system for the UWW has to cover two mats, each with four cameras, so slomo.tv modified videoReferee-SR to add the ability to cover two independent matches with four cameras.

Sébastien Guenat, director of IT, UWW, said: “While looking for solutions to increase the fairness of the refereeing during International Events, United World Wrestling found Slomo.tv to be the ideal solution. Increasing the numbers of cameras (angles) gave our referees a better tool to make the correct decision. Also, the stability of the system’s software allowed us to respond to 100% of the challenges (replays) requested by the coaches in the last two years.”
