The broadcaster is replacing live sports events with classic sporting moments.
With coronavirus putting a stop to all live sport, BBC Sport is the latest sport broadcaster to turn its attentions to archive sports footage. It’s scheduling a whole calendar of archive sporting events, including the London 2012 Olympic Games.
BBC1 will show both The Opening Ceremony and a series of highlights programmes showcasing the key moments from the rest of London 2012, including – like Eurosport at the weekend – Super Saturday.
Instead of Euro 2020 in June and July, the BBC will air the best of Euro ‘96, when it was held in England.
Match of Their Day will feature BBC football pundits choosing their favourite matches from the archives; Football Focus will also show classic matches every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Furthermore, the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer will stream “some of the best matches” from the BBC archive, as part of its weekly ‘Rewind’ series.

From early July, some of the greatest moments from Wimbledon will be re-run, including the legendary moment Andy Murray became Wimbledon Champion.
And the best matches from the World Snooker Championships archive will show this month.
Cricket is also getting re-runs, with Test Match Special hosting 40 of the best episodes of the ‘View From The Boundary’ feature on BBC Sounds.
