The club has found another way to reach its fans while La Liga is postponed
Real Madrid has launched a Twitch channel while football matches have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With La Liga and the Champions League both suspended, Los Merengues have moved to reach their fans in a new way and encourage them to stay at home during lockdowns across Europe.
Having only just started, the channel is yet to have a wealth of content, but it did cover Marco Asensio’s victory for the team in the LaLigaSantanderChallenge – an esports competition held between players of each club in the division.

Since the end of that tournament, Real Madrid has also published the full match of the Brazilian Ronaldo’s debut for the club – a 5-2 victory over Alaves in 2002 in which the striker scored a brace. This was supported by interaction on social media during the stream and could point to the kind of content that it will be looking to share in the future.
Other clubs, such as Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, also have Twitch channels but it is yet to become a norm for sides. With the Covid-19 shutdowns leaving fans stuck at home, other teams may look at this opportunity more seriously to reach supporters.
