The streaming provider has opened the deal to new subscribers during the coronavirus outbreak
DAZN has agreed a deal with Honda to offer two free months to new subscribers in Japan.
The sports streaming provider has partnered with the car manufacturer to make the offer, which isn’t open to current subscribers, people who have used DAZN in the past year, or people who have made in-app purchases.
Applications to the deal will be accepted until 15 March, it has been revealed.
Honda has signed up to the promotion as the Formula One season is planned to start during the next couple of months. The opening Grand Prix in Melbourne, Australia, has been cancelled, but currently the Bahrain Grand Prix on 22 March is scheduled to go ahead behind closed doors.
Martin Jones, DAZN’s executive vice president in Japan, pointed to the coronavirus pandemic as the reason behind the move: “[With] a variety of sports all over the world under the influence of the coronavirus [not being] held as scheduled, we are pleased to be able to deliver the F1 live broadcast.”
“In a situation where you have to refrain from going out suddenly, [we] launch a joint campaign so that sports fans and children who are forced to spend a lot of time at home, and even adults, can feel a little better.”
Honda’s head of brand communication, Katsuhide Moriyama, added: “We hope that you will be able to touch, not only F1, ️ but also a wide range of sports, so that you can challenge not only children but also many people.”
