It will be showing the qualification tournaments ahead of Tokyo 2020

Eurosport has secured a deal for the rights to show the handball qualification tournaments for the 2020 Olympics in four Scandinavian nations.

It will be exclusively showing the competitions in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway. The latter two will be involved along with a number of other countries from around the world, with both the men’s and women’s tournaments’ rights being bought. Denmark has already qualified for Tokyo 2020 as the reigning world champion.

Sports marketing agency Lagardère Sports helped to finalise the deal with the International Handball Federation (IHF). The women’s qualification tournaments run from 20-22 March, with three running simultaneously in Lliria, Spain, as well as Gyor, Hungary, and Podgorica in Montenegro.

Meanwhile, the men’s tournaments will be from 17-19 April in Trondheim, Norway, plus Paris, France, and Berlin, Germany.

President, Eurosport and Global Sports Rights & Sports Marketing Solutions, Andrew Georgiou, said of the agreement: “We are committed to delivering the most innovative and in-depth digital Olympics ever to fans across Europe and are proud to be where viewers can watch every minute of every sport, featuring every athlete.”

Denmark and Russia are the defending Olympic gold medallists in men’s and women’s handball respectively.
