The telecoms giant is aiming to become net zero by 2045 

BT Sport has joined BAFTA’s Albert initiative, as it continues its efforts to be a green broadcaster.

Albert brings together broadcasters in their efforts to become environmentally friendly. BBC, Sky, ITV, Channel 4, and Netflix are also members. Founded in 2011, it was created to eliminate waste and carbon emissions in the screen industry, as well as empower creatives to make content that supports sustainability.

In joining the initiative, BT Sport will be committing to using an Albert calculator to determine their carbon footprint. It will also aim for Albert certification, with training and support for production staff provided by the Albert team.

Chief operating officer, BT Sport, Jamie Hindhaugh, said of the announcement: “BT Sport is working to become the greenest broadcaster in the UK and today’s announcement marks a big step for our people, our processes and our partners in achieving this essential aim.”

BT has stated its aim to become a net zero carbon business by 2045. To achieve this, it is aiming to switch to 100% renewable energy, among other measures. Another broadcaster who is aiming for net zero carbon is rival Sky, who has set a target of 2030.
