AWS tools will help bring new game-watching experiences to fans

Optical tracking company Second Spectrum has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and media services provider.

Second Spectrum, which provides optical tracking for both the NBA and the Premier League, says its partnership with AWS will help bring new game-watching experiences to fans.

It will be using AWS media services to deliver analytics, visualisations, and easily searchable video clips during games, to enhance coverage and give insight to teams.

Clippers Courtvision – a live streaming platform providing real-time stats, player tracking, and explanatory animations for the LA Clippers – is one example of this in action.

Second Spectrum’s content generation service also runs on AWS, which enables it to compare real-time information against historical team and player data housed on AWS.

This means Second Spectrum can then rapidly create stats, analysis, and proprietary metrics such as quantified shooter impact, and can also use AWS infrastructure to generate 3D augmented video to support live broadcasts.

In addition, latency during streaming is minimised with AWS Elemental Live.

Furthermore, AWS Elemental MediaStore lets producers and commentators access key moments at speed.
