It will be its first fully 8K documentary
Insight TV has commissioned its first 8K UHD HDR sport documentary, Sandboarding on Dragon Hill.
Premiering in June on Insight TV, the show is being produced by French production company FastFokus – who previously worked with Insight TV to produce MTB Heroes: Trailblazers.
2020 could be a big year for sport and 8K UHD HDR, with Japanese broadcaster NHK planning to cover the Tokyo Olympics in 8K after already filming the 2019 Rugby World Cup in 8K to domestic audiences.
In addition, Italian public broadcaster Rai has said that it is aiming to broadcast the Olympic Games in 8K, potentially becoming the first European broadcaster to offer 8K broadcasts.
The UK’s BT Sport is another who has looked at 8K production, giving a demonstration at the 2019 IBC showing the Premiership Rugby 7s at Northampton.
Sandboarding on Dragon Hill will follow Canadian mountain bike legend Brett Tippie as he and his friend, MTB star and ex-pro skier Richie Schley, are taken to the best sandboarding locations near Chilean city Iquique by two-time sandboarding world champion and Iquique local Jose Martinez.
Director of media sales at Insight TV, Natalie Boot, said: “Over the past year, we have experimented with 8K and have been blown away with the results. Sandboarding on Dragon Hill is our first full-length documentary film in 8K UHD HDR and we think viewers will be equally blown away with this film.”
Damien Vergez, founder of FastFokus, added: “We are delighted to be working with Insight TV on another adventurous show with some of the world’s best mountain biking talent.”
