The report is available for free below, and includes analysis of 40 rights holders from around the world.
MediaKind has unveiled a report providing detailed analysis on the direct-to-consumer (D2C) OTT platforms owned and operated directly by sports rights holders.
The report – The MediaKind 2021 Sports D2C Forecast – covers sports leagues, confederations, national associations, leagues and clubs.
It includes analysis from the ATP Tour, ECB, Formula One, Manchester United, the four major US sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL) and UEFA.
The report covers D2C OTT trends, including fan engagement; monetisation; use of archives; and the integration of data.
A total of 40 rights holders across the Americas, Europe and Asia were analysed as part of the report.
Most still define their D2C platform as complementary to broadcast coverage, however, most rights holders also now see it as an essential part of their future distribution strategy for live sport and building direct connections with fans.
