The Spanish football league unveils a series of insights about fan engagement during lockdown.
LaLiga has revealed a number of insights into viewing figures and fan engagement during lockdown that show significant gains.
LaLiga saw a 50% increase on its international audience on its first matchday back post-lockdown, with the audience coming from 105 broadcasters in over 183 countries.
Over the course of the season, LaLiga says it reached nearly 2.8 billion viewers – an increase of 11.5% compared to the previous season.
The highest growth for LaLiga fans was in Africa (33%) and Central and North America (20.4%).
LaLiga also said downloads of its apps and games exceeded 110 million in April 2020. This includes the LaLiga official app, LaLiga.com, LaLiga Fantasy Marca, Fantasy, HeadFootball LaLiga and a number of educational games
Meanwhile, the number of users of LaLiga’s OTT platform, LaLigaSportsTV, which consolidates different sports into a single platform, reached 1 million.
Finally, LaLiga grew its digital followers by 25 million during the season, reaching a total of 115 million. These are across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube; TikTok, the Chinese social media platforms Weibo, WeChat, Douyin and Toutiao; the Russian platforms VK and OK, and Asia’s social media platform, Line.
