The CPL is the first Twenty20 tournament to return since the coronavirus hiatus

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has teamed up with AI sports video technology company WSC Sports to enhance its real-time video highlights.

The CPL is the first Twenty20 tournament to return to action since the enforced coronvirus postponements, and will use WSC’s platform to create customised player highlights of overseas stars such as Alex Hales, Rashid Khan, and Marcus Stoinis for local audiences. In addition, every match will be streamed live on YouTube using easylive.io broadcast technology.

This isn’t the first time that WSC has been involved in cricket, supplying similar services to the Australian Big Bash League and Women’s Big Bash League. It has also worked with the NBA, Bundesliga, and PGA Tour. Its service AI and machine learning to create personalized sports videos of match events automatically, in real time, for every digital platform.

CPL’s head of marketing, Chris Watson, said: “At the CPL we are always trying to innovate to give our fans the best possible experience. This year more than any other it is vital that fans in the Caribbean and around the world are able to engage with the tournament through our social media channels. WSC means in 2020 following the CPL will be easier than ever.”

Guy Port, WSC’s sports head of Asia Pacific, added: “It is exciting for fans to see Live T20 Cricket return to our screens. WSC is proud to partner our video automation solution with the CPL to help provide more stories to more fans every day of the tournament.”

The CPL was originally slated to take place in six countries across the region, but is now taking place solely in Trinidad across two venues and behind closed doors. ‘Home’ side Trinbago Knight Riders has made the strongest start to the competition, being the only team to win its first two games. In the UK, all 33 matches are being shown live on Sky Sports.
