It joins the broadcaster’s extensive Bundesliga coverage in the country
DAZN has secured exclusive live and on-demand rights to the Champions League in Germany for the next three seasons.
Running from the 2020/21 campaign until 2023/24, the deal allows DAZN to stream 121 of the 138 games from the play-offs to the final. This means every match, except from one per week shown by rival Amazon, will be on the service – with the final being shared free-to-air jointly with public-service broadcaster ZDF.
As well as the matches, DAZN will show a ‘conference’ format with live action from most matches, and highlights from all games. This joins the Bundesliga offering on the platform, which recently agreed to show 106 top flight matches a season for the next four campaigns. The deal also covers rights in Austria and Switzerland.
Chief business development officer at DAZN, John Gleasure, said of the announcement: “At the peak, we’ll show exclusive live coverage in Germany at eight out of the 10 kick-off times a week across the two leading club competitions, giving fans affordable access to the most prestigious and exciting football competitions around.”
