BT Sport has decentralised production to enable presenters and crew to create, produce and broadcast live shows from their homes.
Episode 8 of the Broadcast Tech Talks podcast series sees BT Sport COO Jamie Hindhaugh talking with Broadcast Sport editor Jake Bickerton about how the broadcaster has responded to lockdown.
Working to a very tight deadline, BT Sport decentralised its production to create a virtual television studio distributed across the UK, so the presenters and crew can produce and broadcast live shows from their homes.
Building on this, the broadcaster then created a series of presenter-led live programming formats to replace live sports coverage during lockdown. Hindhaugh talks about how these have enabled BT Sport to cover archive re-runs within a proper show format.
Hindhaugh also talks about the value of BT Sport Films’ range of sports docs during the pandemic, and whether BT Sport is looking to cover more esports while live sports are on hold.
