Tyson Fury defeated Deontay Wilder last year, in their second fight
Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are set to fight for a third time later this year, with ESPN and Fox collaborating on the pay-per-view, according to reports.
The Athletic has revealed that the pair are to face each other on 3 October this year. This comes after a controversial draw in their first bout, and Fury’s convincing victory in the second.
The rematch also brings sport broadcasters ESPN and Fox back together again, after they co-promoted the last fight too. That event saw 800,000-850,000 pay-per-view buys, a huge growth on the 325,000 for the first time the pair were in the ring.
The broadcasters may be hoping for further growth this time round, with Fury enjoying further popularity since his victory. He has seen a turnaround in his reputation after being criticised in the past for his views on homophobia, sexism, and other topics.
With many events currently postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, it remains to be seen if the covid-19 lockdowns go on to affect events planned for later in the year.
