78.1% of the hours were spent watching live sport
DAZN has revealed that over 49 million hours of sport were watched on its platform during its first year in Spain.
The live and on-demand sport streaming service launched in the country on 27 February 2019, and has since shown coverage of competitions such as MotoGP, the Copa Libertadores, Copa America, as well as events like Anthony Joshua’s victory over Anthony Ruiz in Saudi Arabia and Conor McGregor’s return to UFC.
78.1% of their viewing came through these live sports, with the other 21.9% coming on-demand. The most followed event on the platform was the MotoGP event held in Barcelona last June – which saw eventual season champion and Spaniard, Marc Márquez, win the race.
At no.2 was Real Madrid’s shock defeat to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey quarter-final.
The areas that viewed the most of their content were unsurprisingly some of the most populated areas in Spain – Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao and Sevilla.
Meanwhile, there were a variety of ways of consuming the coverage, with smart TVs the most popular at 31.5%. After that came mobile devices at 25.2%, set-top boxes (20.1%), the DAZN website (15.4%), and games consoles (7.8%).
There has also been success on social media, with over 430,000 followers across all of its profiles, with 5.5 million interactions on 15,000 pieces of content – 83% of which were positive.
DAZN Spain shows a number of sports, including the English, Spanish, and South American and club world cup football, the WTA, basketball, gymnastics, and more. An agreement with Discovery also sees Eurosport 1 and 2 content such as cycling’s grand tours also available.
