The feature follows Frankie Dettori over a season in racing
Embankment is to begin worldwide sales of documentary Frankie at the European Film Market (EFM).
Currently in production, the feature follows legendary horse racing jockey Frankie Dettori over a season in the sport – celebrating his successful career along the way. It is directed by Emmy and BAFTA winner Anthony Wonke, and produced by Nick Ryle. The pair worked together before on a documentary following famous jumps jockey AP McCoy, Being AP.
Frankie shadows Dettori as he aims to win the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe for the third time, while riding beloved horse Enable.
Dettori said of the production: “I’m blessed with an extraordinary life and career and I’m very excited to share that story on film. I want to show what it’s really like being a top jockey and there is so much that hasn’t been told that will surprise and entertain audiences.”
Wonke added: “High-performance elite sport is always an exhilarating place to set a film. What makes this even more exciting is Dettori himself, who has transcended his sport with a fascinating and unpredictable career. Hugely charismatic and driven, he’s overcome profound drama in his life – and no doubt there will be more in what could be the most important season of his career.”
Wonke has won plaudits in the past for features such as Ronaldo and Being AP, and has also been lauded for his investigative journalism – for which he has won the Prix Italia, Peabody, Grierson and RTS awards.
