The content replaces the cancelled 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo.

BBC Sport has scheduled 12 days of dedicated Olympics programming, to replace the cancelled 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Badged Olympics Rewind, and starting on 14 July, the content naturally relies heavily on archive material, through a daily highlights show looking back at some of the greatest moments from the last three Olympics games.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics games will also feature in the coverage.

The first Olympics covered in Olympics Rewind is Beijing 2008, which will be shown over three nights (14-16 July at 3pm each day on BBC2).

Highlights include Usain Bolt’s 100m and 200m world records; and multiple British gold medals for the likes of Rebecca Adlington and Chris Hoy.

The archive coverage will be narrated by Sue Barker.

Next up is London 2012 (17-19 July) – one of the most memorable events in British sporting history.

Coverage includes the six gold medals of Super Saturday, including the triple athletics triumph of Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford, to Andy Murray beating Federer to win tennis gold.

The BBC will also show the 2012 Torch Relay and the Opening Ceremony (pictured above), featuring extended highlights from Danny Boyle’s extraordinary event.

After this (20-24 July) is Olympics Rewind: Rio 2016, hosted by Dan Walker. This was Britain’s most successful games since 1908, with a tally of 67 medals – includes gold for the likes of Adam Peaty, Mo Farah, Bradley Wiggins, Helen Glover, Max Whitlock and Nicola Adams.

The BBC finishes off its Olympics re-runs on Saturday 25 July (1.15pm, BBC One) with Britain’s Greatest Olympic Moments, presented by Clare Balding and Gabby Logan.

This is a Top 25 countdown of British Olympic moments from the summer games, with the public having their say on what’s included via a vote on the BBC Sport website.

Throughout the 12 days, guests including Chris Hoy, Rebecca Adlington, Max Whitlock, and the 2016 Team GB women’s hockey gold medallists will give their views in a show called Olympic Secrets, which will air on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and BBC Red Button.

There’s also a special programme bringing together Olympic 400m athletes Michael Johnson and Wayde van Niekerk.

BBC director of sport, Barbara Slater said: “In the absence of this summer’s postponed Olympics in Tokyo, Olympics Rewind will allow fans to relive Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. Forming a fortnight of entertainment and nostalgia, the programming will look back on incredible accomplishments, record breaking performances and huge British gold medal hauls from each Olympic Games.”
