It will also be showing flagship women’s races in a historic first
Eurosport has agreed a deal for the rights to show two Grand Tour cycling events and two major women’s races in Europe until 2025.
Eurovision Sport and the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) have agreed the deal, which allows Eurosport to show the Tour de France and La Vuelta live in Europe. Alongside this, the agreement also extends to the women’s flagship Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Flèche Wallonne races – which will be produced and broadcast live for the first time from 2020.
For the next five years, Eurosport will show the competitions across Europe, with the Tour de France exclusive in 38 markets and La Vuelta in 50. In addition, from 2021, sister company Global Cycling Network (GCN) will stream every Grand Tour powered by Eurosport through its new app.
Viewers will be able to tune in through Eurosport’s TV coverage or their online streaming platform, Eurosport Player.
President, Eurosport and Global Sports Rights & Sports Marketing Solutions, Andrew Georgiou, said of the announcement: “Passionate sports fans are at the heart of everything we do, so we’re pleased to be providing live and on-demand coverage of the Tour de France and La Vuelta until at least 2025.”
He added: “We’re particularly excited to be showcasing the very best in female cycling talent to a pan-European audience through our deal with the ASO and Eurovision Sport and are confident we will support the continued growth of the sport across the continent, encouraging more people than ever to get involved.”
The first of these races this year will be the Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, which run on 22 and 26 April. Meanwhile the Tour de France will run from 27 June until 19 July, and the Vuelta a España is from 14 August to 6 September.
